UP NEC Celebrates 30th Anniversary
The UP national Engineering Center celebrated its 30th anniversary last January 30 with the theme "UP NEC @30, Creating Solutions, Empowering People."

Simultaneous and parallel lectures were conducted with several resource persons invited to talk on pressing issues. Metropolitan Mania Development Authority (MMDA) Charmain Mr. Bayani Fernando, Department of transportation and Communications (DOTC) Director for Transport Planning Mr. Ildefonso Patdu Jr., and National Center for Transportation Studies (NCTS) Director Dr. Regin Regidor discussed "Medium Term Solutions to Urban Transport Problems" at the audio Visual Room. The open forum was moderated by Dr. Sean Palmiano of NCTS.

Another talk on "Geek management: Are we losing our engineers?" was being conducted at the seminar room B at the 3rd floor of NEC. Meralco's First VP and Head of Human Resources Ms. Leonisa de la Llana, Canon's VP for Administration Mr. Rolando Martinez, and COE Dean and NEC Executive Director Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara shared their insights on the topic. Dr. Angela Escoto, UP Diliman's HR Director and former NEC Assistant tot he Executive Director, moderated the discussion while Building Research Service (BRS) Director DR. Nathaniel Diola summarized it.

Meanwhile at the seminar room A at the 2nd floor of NEC, another lecture was going on. Dr. Francisco Viray, President and CEO of Trans-Asia Oil and Energy Development Corp. and former UP COE Dean and NEC Executive Director, NPC President Mr. Cyril del Callar, and COE's Energy Program Director Dr. Rizalinda de Leon addressed the question "Can we achieve energy security by 2010?" The discussion was moderated by RN Ferrer's President Mr. Rodolfo N. Ferrer and later summarized by Ms. Charito Isidro.

A short program at the NEC grounds followed the parallel sessions. UP President Dr. Emerlinda R. Roman and UP Diliman Chancellor Dr. Sergio S. Cao each gave a brief message. Lecturers, partners, customers, and outstanding NEC employees (the O.N.E.) were also given recognition during the event.

A photo exhibit and technology demonstrations were also shown by the various centers of NEC and COE departments. Dinner was served while the UP Jazz Ensemble played the music to the more than 200 guests.
